Change is a part of life for better or for worse.

Change is a part of life for better or for worse. Sometimes, it brings us moments that shake us to rubble and moments that invite us to rebuild. The choice is ours: to conceal the cracks or let them become a source of light.

Three years ago, I came out of the medical closet and shared my diagnosis of early-onset Parkinson’s disease with the Irish Examiner. That moment marked a shift from something that happened to me to being the change I wanted to see.

This week, I had the great pleasure of being the ieStyle Live Women of Impact keynote speaker. I also guest edited today’s Weekend magazine where I chat with academic, activist, and author, Katriona O’Sullivan (Poor) about the turning points in her life and what it means to “live on the beam”.

Elsewhere in the issue, Gemma Fullam’s interview with disability activist and fashion powerhouse Sinéad Burke explores the importance of universal design, while Esther McCarthy speaks with actor, Colin Farrell about his charity work and the power of community.

As Leonard Cohen reminds us, “There is a crack in everything/That's how the light gets in.”

I've worked as the Irish Examiner's fashion editor since 2008. In that time, I have had the pleasure of collaborating with, and learning from, the paper's most creative and passionate people. Lucky, in fact, doesn't begin to cover it.

This past week has been a career highlight. Being the Women of Impact keynote speaker at ieStyle Live 2025, appearing on The Deirdre O'Shaugnessy Podcast and guest editing Weekend magazine (out today) are opportunities that I don't take for granted.

On today, World Parkinson's Day, I join the international Parkinson's community in raising awareness of the disease. Below are a few facts that may surprise you.

🌷 Parkinson's is now the most common neurodegenerative disease, surpassing Alzheimer's.
🌷There are 10 million people worldwide with Parkinson's.
🌷Of this number, 18,000 people live in Ireland.
🌷When I was diagnosed in 2021, this number was 12,000.
🌷About 40 per cent of all diagnoses are women.
🌷10 to 20 per cent of all diagnoses are classified as early-onset or under the age of 50.
