What’s In My Wardrobe – Trans-seasonal Separates

I can’t begin to tell you just how cold it was the day we did this shoot; even the brass monkeys fecked off inside for a hot chocolate.  After #TheBeastFromTheEast took its leave, I prematurely jumped at the chance to shake off the cabin fever and bask in the snowless sky. Rookie mistake. After Mother Nature took an unseasonal dump on our small island, she left us a parting gift of Baltic winds – the kind that slap you across the face, laugh and point when wearing anything besides YakTrax and a full-length Polar fleece-lined puffer coat. In the words of my mother, “This too shall pass.”

Any day now. Any day now, folks.

This is why trans-seasonal dressing is more than a fashion epithet, it’s the lynchpin of #WardrobeWellness if you live at 53 degrees North latitude. Combine the fine art of layering with fuss-free monochrome and the result is a canny insurance policy against the capricious pause between spring on the calendar and spring in the air.

Let’s break this down, shall we? The hat, shoes and polo neck you may recognize from previous posts – simple staples that make getting dressed a whole lot easier.

The trousers (part of a suit) I recently had altered at The Zip Yard to lend themselves to #FreeTheAnkle sockless flats. As for the gilet, it makes a soft knit look the business without the corporate subtext of a blazer.

Let’s talk about the bag. Another vintage find from my beloved Miss Daisy Blue – one capacious enough to double as a briefcase and holds my iPad, diary and worky bits nicely. Oh, and it’s kinda boss too.

Speaking of which, I’m marching up to the Met office now to give the weather its P45. Although I may need to wait for the current #SonofaBeast to pass.

Any day now. Any day now, folks.
